Circle of Life: Winter 3002 Birthdays

Only one this time.

Jordan Tracy is now a toddler!

Another shot of him being held by his favorite person, his older sister Marianne.

***************************************************************************************************************

  • I was right! He does look like his father.
  • I dedicate this birthday update to Carla, as she will rejoice with me, yay! I got a redhead. I have freckled skins that are geneticized, so I was a little disappointed that he didn’t inherit any. So I went overboard with the freckles on his face. He’s a serious contender of the cutest child in the LC.
  • Thanks for viewing!

love shot me down

Fall 3002: Barnes household
last update/next update
Dimitri Barnes is 28. Dominic Juarez is 32.

narrated by Dimitri

It’s been nearly a year since Amelia left me, and I think I’m finally moving on.

Well, I’m still a little upset.

I sat in the cemetery like I always do, reminiscing about our past and thinking about the future we should have shared. But this last time, it was different.

I continued to feel different when Dominic came over for coffee on the way to work.

It has been a routine with us, ever since Amelia died. It has helped with my coping with her death.

After I told him about what happened at the cemetery, he advised that it was my subconscious letting me know that I was finally over Mia’s death and ready to move on and start dating again.

I don’t know about all of that; I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get over my Mia.

A couple of weeks later, I visited my alma mater, University of Rockport, for a lecture. One of my favorite places at URock is the campus bookstore, Books Gone Berserk, so I stopped by there to browse around, losing myself in their eclectic inventory.

The soft ring of the bell above the front door tinkled, before a confident voice followed, “Hey Rick, I’m returning those books you let me borrow. I owe you one.”

When I looked up, the beautiful voice was matched to an equally beautiful young woman. What stunned me the most was when our eyes met, I immediately felt the shock of attraction to this woman. All I could do was smile stupidly at  her, as she went up the stairs to the second floor.

I made a split decision to introduce myself to her when she came back, but when she did, I was once again struck speechless.

I’ve never been a shy man; after all, my career is all about interacting with people every day. But I was tongue-tied with this woman, and as she neared the exit, I had a sudden fear that I was never going to see her again.

“Excuse me, miss?” I blurted out.

“Yes?” she replied, walking back towards me.

The sound of her sweet voice nearly made me mute again, but I forced myself to speak again. “I apologize for being forward, but is there anyway I could get to know you over coffee?”

She didn’t reply at first. She stared at me intently, fully appraising me. Just when I thought she was going to reject me, publicly humiliate me, she glanced at her watch and said, “Sure.”

Her condition, though, was that we go to the coffee stand on the second floor of the bookstore, which I readily agreed to. I went to retrieve our order while she secured us a table.

When we sat down, I immediately apologize for my communication skills, or lack thereof. “I’m not used to picking up women in a bookstore and was a bit nervous,” I explained.

I got the feeling that she didn’t believe me.

I felt that I was losing her interest, so I asked what she did for a living. She told me that she was a graduate student at URock, earning her master’s degree in psychology.

I had hoped that she wasn’t a student at the university, but at least she was a graduate student, which meant that she was at most five years my junior.

When she reciprocated, I told her that I was in politics, the mayor of Laurel Crossing.

I fully expected her to be impressed, but I was surprised at her frown.

“I’m sorry; I’ve got to run,” she said, rising to leave.

I panicked; what just happened? “Wait!”

“Was it something I said? Whatever I did to disturb you, I apologize,” I began.

She raised her hand to stop what I’m sure was me begging. “I have a firm policy in NOT dating politicians,” she replied. “I’m sorry, but I’m not interested.”

“Will you at least let me take you out to eat at the diner next door? Give me a chance to change your mind?” I asked. At that point, I didn’t care if it sounded like pleading.

She studied me again. After a long while, she agreed.

**************************************************************************************************************

Her name was Addie, more specifically, Adele Newman. Her father was Washington J. Newman, former mayor of Rockport and current governor of the Stone Province. From the stories I’ve heard about him, he was a formidable man with heavy influence. It was rumored that he planned to run for a ministry office next, eventually leading to prime minister.

She came from a family life of politics, filled with dull campaign fundraisers and long campaign trails, as well as absenteeism from her father; it explained her dislike of anyone in the political arena. She didn’t want her future children to be placed second after her husband’s career.

“Why on earth are you eating dessert first?” she asked me when our food arrived.

“Because I found that life is way too short to delay enjoying your rewards,” I told her, thinking of Amelia.

We talked some more, and two hours had past, way too quickly.

I offered to give her a ride home, but she insisted that she rather walk home instead. But we did exchange phone numbers.

“Thank you for giving me chance,” I told her.

She took my hand. “I’m glad I did.”

We shyly gave each other a kiss. I’m sure she felt the same bolt of lightning when our lips touched.

Addie started for home, and as I watched her leave, all I could think was how I just met my future wife.

It was time for me to move on, and I knew in my heart I was destined to be with Addie for the next 50 years and more.

*****************************************************************************************************************

  • The title is from Love Shot me Down by Night Ranger.
  • Dimitri’s grieving for Amelia mirrored my own in a lot of ways. So when he didn’t spin any wants for her for three days straight and had a “Meet a New Sim” want, I realized that he was finally ready to move on. So it was time that I did as well.
  • Dimitri was the one who rolled the CHANGE OF PLANS ROS. I had to re-roll his LTW, which changed to him wanting to celebrate a golden anniversary (hence the 50 years statement), which meant he had to get married. Since he obviously couldn’t get that with Amelia, as she had rolled a death ROS, I couldn’t change it until now. I mean, the death of a significant other can make you change your lifetime goal, right?
  • I used the crystal ball to see if there were any potential matches out there. Most were elders or vacation townies; the only viable matches were Addie Newman and Summer Frazier. If you recall, Summer was Amelia’s nemesis in her career (and a big pain in the butt for Dimitri), so she was out. So the remaining contender was Addie, a dormie. I chose Adele for her birth name, as I was listening to Someone Like You at the time I wrote this update.
  • To make myself feel better about Dimitri dating a college student, I made her a graduate student so the age difference wouldn’t be so much. Now I just have to figure out which career for her to enter. I have a good feeling about the two of them, even though she doesn’t like politicians (she has ZERO interest points in politics), she gets along well with Dimitri. They look good together and I can’t wait to see their romance unfold.

Too School for Cool, Fall 3002 semester

Laurel Hill Secondary: Fall 3002 Semester
next update

Principal/Superintendent: Illiana Greer; Teachers: Deidre Faithbucks, Nigel Hoyt
Students: Marianne Richward, Denise Weber, Janet Weber (all 12); Jeffrey Michaels (13); Artemis Greene, Devon Royal (14); Autumn Greer, Summer Greer, Winter Greer, Lloyd Wlyde (15)

Ms. Faithbucks begins directing the students to their classes as soon as the morning bell rings, although Janet feels the need to take her time doing so.

Class has barely started before Devon is already bored, while Jeffrey tries to solve the algebra problem on the board. F(x)=2x+18… huh?

School hasn’t gotten any easier for Janet, who still struggles. She sneaks a peek over to Marianne and discovers she’s already done.

Who needs algebra any way. She’d much rather hang out with boys anyway, like Jeffrey.

She’s too hot to do schoolwork anyway.

Which Jeffrey enthusiastically agrees.

Somehow, both Winter and Summer wind up studying across from Artemis and Lloyd, their respective crushes. Winter’s eyes keep finding their way to Artemis instead of his book.

Unlike Janet, the other students know that there is a time and place for everything, and the library is not a place for hooking up. Autumn finds Denise hard at work in researching for biology class.

When lunchtime comes, it’s obvious where the popular table is. Even though Janet, Marianne and Denise are seventh graders, they still managed to have the most popular (and very handsome) guys in school sitting with them.

Winter was having some good fortune as well. He has been hitting it off with Artemis very well.

Very well.

So well in fact that Artemis agreed to go steady with him. Meanwhile, Summer wonders how her geeky brother managed to get a girlfriend, while she remains dateless. She then resolves to go ask out Lloyd while she has the nerve.

Except that she’s too late.

To Summer’s horror, she watches Lloyd ask Marianne- a SEVENTH grader!!- to go steady.

Who, of course, accepts. Who wouldn’t want to go out with the star basketball player?

Perturbed that Marianne got a boyfriend before she did, Janet tries flirting it up with Jeffrey in hopes of snagging an upperclassman too. Denise has no intentions of following her friends’ actions. Why should she try to pair up with Devon, when he was too busy staring at her best friend anyway?

Still angry at not getting a boyfriend, Janet takes out her frustrations on Summer instead, taunting her for crushing on Lloyd and having Marianne snatching him up. Luckily, the school bell rings, adjourning classes for the day.

By the time the afternoon extracurricular activities ended, the whole school was abuzz with news of the newest “it” couple and the public dis of Summer by Janet.

******************************************************************************************************************

  • The title is from Raise Your Glass by Pink. All high school updates will be under the title.
  • I was hoping for drama with the new high school class and I got it. I was quite surprised at Marianne being the first to have a boyfriend. She’s so into sports; I figured Janet would have been on boyfriend number 3 by the time she got one. Both she and Lloyd had a want to go steady, so I had him ask. Which leads to this: how do you think Liam and Cora is going to react to their 12-year old seventh grader daughter dating a 15-year old sophomore? We shall see, won’t we?
  • Janet is definitely a maneater-in-training, isn’t she? But she’s definitely a mean girl. She went over to talk to Summer (who had a crush on Lloyd) and had an immediate bad conversation with her. She just couldn’t help rubbing the loss of Lloyd in her face.
  • Denise was pretty quiet like she was when they were kids; Janet’s and Marianne’s personalities tend to overshadow her a lot. Autumn is like that too, with her triplet siblings. Winter is the only boy and Summer is a more model student. Out of all of her family, Autumn is also the only one who’s not a Knowledge sim; she’s Family, so her priorities are different than the rest of her family.
  • I didn’t plan on how they were seated in the lunchroom, except that I had Marianne, Janet and Denise sit together like always and Winter and Artemis together. Not surprisingly, Autumn and Summer sat at the table with their brother, but lo and behold that the other upperclassman boys sat with the three seventh graders. Lloyd and Marianne kept flirting with each other and soon fell in love within minutes (they were friends during childhood). It seems that the three musketeers are on their way to becoming Laurel Hills’ version of the Plastics.
  • Little shots of classrooms, as I had a hard time keeping the teachers on the lot. Two hours into school time, Nigel and Deidre both left. I had previously had teachers as OFB employees of my community-lot school; this was my first time having the teachers in the EAxis education career and setting them as teachers, so I’m at a loss as to what I did wrong. Maybe it will work next time.

Out in the School Yard, Fall 3002 semester

Laurel Grove Primary: Fall 3002
last update/next update

Principal/Superintendent:  Illiana Greer. Teachers: Quinn Faulkner, Devon Summerfield

Students: Giovanni Juarez, Nate Fontaine, Becca Townie (all 5)Nichole Faithbucks, Santiago Juarez, Chaz Weber (all 7); Sergio Juarez (9); Sarai Richward (11);

It’s a few months into the school year and all of the kindergartners have gotten into the school day’s regular routine. Using the watercolors is the best part of the day!

Alicia prefers, however, the children’s literature in the classroom. Ever since she learned how to read, she can’t get enough!

The older kids are working hard in their workbooks, especially for Sarai, as it is the year where she takes her graduating SPATs to get into high school. Not that she has anything to work about, Sarai and Nichole love schoolwork and both have stellar grades to show for it.

The boys, though, think the girls are mental. On what planet is schoolwork fun?

But lunch soon comes, where burgers are on the menu today. Score!

For some, the happy surprise of today’s menu is somewhat subdued by Sergio’s constant bragging. He may be her new cousin and all, but Sarai is not impressed with Sergio always taking about himself.

She doesn’t have to hear it for long, as it’s soon time for recess.

The later part of the day is filled with more schoolwork. It may be the middle of fall, but Principal Greer is making sure that all of her students are preparing for the SPAT.

Mr. Summerfield goes to give extra help to Alicia, but finds she doesn’t need any. He concludes that she better works as an independent learner.

The students spend the rest of the day in the library. Some work on their computer skills…

…while other opt to read and do research.

Finally it is 3 o’clock and the kids rush home to empty their minds with TV and video games, so they can do it all over again tomorrow.

******************************************************************************************************************

  • Apparently, I still don’t have it together, as I still haven’t finished all of the sim profiles and I still don’t have the last name of the townie Becca.
  • The kids had hamburgers because yet again the NPC never showed up; I had Illiana cook.
  • I noticed during gameplay that Alicia is a loner. She was usually quiet during class and lunchtime. She barely conversed during recess; I had to make her interact with the other students. Even during the gradework class, she had a neutral reaction to the workbook; no smiling like Sarai and Nichole, or frowning or quitting like the boys. The divorce must have affected her socially, which just adds to my dislike of Blake.

got enough to enjoy the good life

Fall 3002: JuarezArt Household
last update/next update
Arturo Juarez is 65, Donna is 66. Also Doris Richward is 63,  Sarai Richward is 11, Sergio Juarez is 9, Santiago Juarez is 7, Giovanni Juarez is 5.

narrated by Arturo

Donna and I didn’t realize how much we would miss being around children until after we moved into our own place after getting hitched. So we have them over every chance we can get. It’s a win-win; we get to be surrounded by the grandkids, and their parents get some time off to themselves. It’s hard to break the habit after being their caregivers for so long.

But once they leave the house gets quite again, so to compensate we started a poker club with other elders. We would have like to play against another couple, but Doris doesn’t have Vyn to play with, as she still works during the day. Fortunately, Judge Leo Wilkie doesn’t work as much and fills our open spot.

Vyn doesn’t mind as she’s willing to play with anyone, as I’m sure she’s bored out of her mind while her wife is at work.

I don’t think she’s not that much happy, after realizing how good Donna and I are at poker.

But we play for fun, so she’s not too sore about it.

At the end of the day though, the house gets empty again. Empty and quiet. Donna suggests that we both have to get a hobby or something to help pass the time.

I’d rather have more grandchildren, thank you very much!

***************************************************************************************************************

  • The title is from One Thing I Need by Aaron Carter.
  • Yes, a super-short update, as nothing really happened with this household.
  • Arturo and Donna are both retired. They used to be busy being the caregivers to their grandchildren when they lived with their children’s families. Now that they’ve moved out, they’re bored as hell! Just days filled with watching TV and reading. So I got them a poker table, which is very popular. That’s all they do now.
  • Leo Wilkie is a townie (AL-socialite group, I believe), who I have as the law and justice adviser on the city council. He was the elder they both knew that had the highest relationship points.
  • Has anyone ever noticed that when sims play poker, their eyes black out. Creepy!
  • Thanks for reading!
